Financial Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples by Patricia Flores
This workshop will explore the collaborative efforts between Saphi and prominent Peruvian financial institutions such as MIbanco and the digital wallet platform Yape. We'll showcase the tangible outcomes of our partnership, highlighting how these financial entities can now effectively serve Quechua-speaking individuals by offering services in their native language.
Additionally, participants will gain valuable insights into Saphi's journey, understanding its evolution and mission to promote linguistic and cultural diversity while fostering economic empowerment. As a special interactive segment, attendees will engage in an activity to learn basic Quechua words, further enhancing cultural appreciation and understanding.
Facilitator Bio: Patricia Flores is a Peruvian social entrepreneur and graduate in Administration driven by a profound desire to address social inequalities in her country. As the Co-founder of Saphi, she spearheads a pioneering venture dedicated to revitalizing indigenous languages, fostering cultural preservation and empowering marginalized communities.
Pivot Exhibition
In an exhibition of diversity and unity, artists from varied traditions created the Pivot: Skateboard Deck Art. We are excited to collaborate with @pivot_exhibit skateboard deck art to be shown at Cahokia PHX Gallery for the month of March.

Indie Film Fest: Original Storyteller's Night
Cahokia PHX and Indie Film Fest are proud to bring you a night of fashion and film at the Original Storytellers Night 2024. This night will include a curated group of fashion designers, films, and even a pitch presentation contest for three filmmakers aiming to receive a grant for their next film. Original Storytellers Night will also include films focusing on Indigenous stories and culture. from the time you walk up the stairs at the Phoenix Center for The Arts to the time you leave, you will be immersed in the film and fashion scene here in Phoenix.

Let's Take the A-train!: In-person BIPOC Arts Youth Class
Billy Strayhorn, a classically trained musician with his own jazz band, caught the attention of Duke Ellington during the Harlem Renaissance when he flawlessly played one of Duke's compositions. Impressed, Duke invited Strayhorn to New York, inspiring him to compose the iconic "Take the A Train." The fusion of abstract painting and jazz is explored in a program designed to introduce children to the fluidity of jazz music and abstract art. The class aims to teach color theory, abstract and expressionist techniques, composition and design, and critique skills.
